The beautiful island of Panglao is one of the most visited destinations in the world because of its paradisiacal beaches. Here in our community in Barangay Doljo, we are blessed with white sandy beaches that are very appealing and relaxing. We all love to have a place where we can escape from the pressures of our hectic lives. There are many benefits we can get from beaches and our oceans. However, just as important are the responsibilities we must take with us when we go to our beaches. Ocean pollution has always been a global problem and a major threat to our oceans. More and more is needed to take action to protect the environment and keep our beaches clean.
Today, June 29, 2021, our SMYC (STEPS MISSION YOUTH CLUB) gathered from 5:30 to 7:30 in the morning with the goal in mind to clean up the beach of Talisay Beach, Doljo, Panglao, Bohol and collect the plastic trash that has harmful effects on our environment and marine life. The youth were taught the importance of taking care of our nature and they are very willing to carry out this environmental program continuously as they embrace the concept of keeping our environment clean, especially our beaches. They are taking the first step towards a great change that will surely influence the mindset of others and encourage them towards the awareness of self-discipline and proper waste disposal. Afterwards, they enjoyed some delicious breakfast snacks. When they went home, they collected their garbage bags and had them picked up by the community's garbage management.
Activities like these are an effective way to increase involvement and begin a process of attitude and behavior change. At this event, we were reminded that there is something we can do every day that can make a big difference, whether it is for people or for our environment. Let's continue to nurture our youth and lead them on the right path of righteousness.
