We know Lyla Clemen from our STEPS school. Her two boys are our students. She had shared with us some of her battles in life as a single parent to her three children. To make a living, she rents a fishing boat for daily fishing and takes on laundry or other odd jobs for neighbors. One day, when she came home from fishing, she was shocked because her youngest had almost been raped by a group of teenagers. From that day on, she took her children on the boat and ordered them to stay in the boat while fishing! Oh my! How dangerous! Mind you, the youngest child is only 3 years old, and the middle one is 5 years old and mentally challenged.
When we heard about this, we visited her and brought her food, enough for a month, and asked her not to go fishing together with her little ones anymore. When we saw the sad state of her "house", with a leaking roof and curtains instead of walls, one of our dear Swiss friends decided to help her repair her house.  We were also able to buy her some tables, chairs, mattresses, dressers, cooking utensils, etc.
The little family is thankful for the monthly food that we are bringing!
The two pictures above show how their house looked like before and the pictures in the bottom are after the renovation. Now the house has walls and a few simple furniture and in front is a neat little garden!
